DevOps Foundation

This course is delivered as an intensive two-day workshop covering the notions of Culture, Automation, Lean, Measurement and Sharing that support collaboration between development (DEV) and operations (OPS) teams.

The workshop is intended for practitioners or managers involved in optimizing workflows between DEV and OPS and for people who directly contribute to activities within the IT service delivery pipeline. At the end of the course, participants will take a one-hour multiple-choice exam in order to obtain the international DevOps Institute (DOI)/PeopleCert DevOps Foundation certificate.

DevOps version: This course introduces the DevOps principles and is based on the DOFD v3.5 Exam Requirements.

Language

The course, course materials and exam are in English.

Course duration

2 days of learning, including the final exam (scheduled later by the candidate).

Prerequisite

None.

Course structure

This course comprises a series of interactive readings supplemented by classroom-style discussions and other exercises resembling the exam.

Course content

The following elements are covered in this course:

  • DevOps concepts and terminology
  • Core DevOps principles
  • Key DevOps practices
  • Business and technology frameworks (Agile, ITIL, Lean, etc.)
  • Culture, behaviours and operating models
  • Automation and architecting DevOps toolchains
  • Measurement, metrics and reporting
  • Sharing, shadowing and evolving

Course objectives

Over two days, participants will acquire the knowledge and skills required to:

  • Explain key concepts and definitions associated with DevOps.
  • Describe the aspects required to embrace DevOps culture and promote the importance of collaboration, flow, feedback and experimentation.
  • Explain how DevOps relies on and complements other frameworks such as Agile, ITIL and Lean.
  • Describe the role of automation, especially around the IT service delivery pipeline.
  • Take the DOI/PeopleCert DevOps Foundation exam with confidence by applying their newly acquired knowledge.
  • Put DevOps principles to practical use in their own environments.

Target audience

This course is aimed at:

  • Personnel involved in contributing to and optimizing the IT service delivery workflow and pipeline
  • Practitioners and managers looking to improve collaboration between development and operations teams
  • Participants with three to six months of prior IT experience (recommended)

Exam

The official DOI/PeopleCert DevOps Foundation exam is included.

The participant will receive a voucher valid for 12 months to write the exam and will need to schedule the exam date. The certification exam is written electronically following the training and requires access to a connected computer with active audio and video.

Format: 40 multiple-choice questions
Duration: 60 minutes.

It is recommended to take this training with an accredited organization using accredited training material.
